Here is your most recent issue of High Current News. It's packed full of information to keep you updated with the latest MIG & TIG news, product information and updates from D/F MACHINE SPECIALTIES.

D/F is a world leader in the design, development, and manufacture of MIG & TIG welding products, consumables & accessories.

Tandem Wire vs. Single Wire Welding

Tandem vs SingleThe Tandem wire MIG welding process greatly increases the application range of the traditional single-wire process. Depending upon the application requirements, a single-wire or tandem-wire configuration might be ideal. The tandem-wire process differs from the single-wire process in the fact that it uses two independent and electrically isolated contact tips guiding two separate wires feeding from two separate power sources; almost like having two torches in one torch body.

When A Single-Wire Setup Should Be Used
A single-wire setup is ideal for smaller applications where the weld bead is relatively small, and where the weld cycle times are shorter, such as lap & but joints, and T- & corner joints. Single-wire welding will produce a standard-sized weld which is most commonly seen in many welding applications which require smaller to medium base materials.

When A Tandem-Wire Setup Should Be Used
A Tandem wire setup is ideal when the application requires heavy-duty, long and rigorous welding cycles such as welding construction & machinery equipment, ASME tanks, and pipe & tubular components. The tandem process will effectively double the speed and greatly increase the deposition rate without compromising the weld quality. If a relatively large weld puddle is required, a tandem setup is the way to go.

D/F Water-Cooled Tandem Wire Torch

D/F TandemThe D/F Machine Specialties specially designed high amperage water-cooled "MIG" Tandem welding torch is a critical component of the Tandem welding system, engineered with specific spacing and alignment of two contact tips to achieve proper arc control. The torch is typically rated in the 600-1300 amp range.

To provide maximum resistance to the abuses of day to day service, the tandem torch is of heavy duty construction with all metal parts well insulated from current carrying members. The D/F Tandem Torch, like all D/F torches, is easily reparable, thus reducing downtime and increasing productivity.

D/F Welding Tips & Tricks - Welding Safety

safety Welding deals with molten metals at extremely high temperatures, heavy equipment and machinery, and high energy electricity, among many other important factors. Exposure to these elements should be countered by adequate welding safety precautions.

  • Proper face and eye protection varies depending on the job being done. A helmet, hand shield, goggles and safety glasses, or a combination of these are acceptable protection. These should meet the required specification for transmission of radiant energy.
  • Other protective equipment should be used as well. Be sure to have the proper gloves, apron and clothing, ventilation apparatus, boots, and other equipment necessary for the particular application.
  • When considering fire prevention, be aware of projectile sparks and molten spatter, hot base metal, interference of loose clothing, and other situations, all of which can start fires when coming in contact with other flammable material. Take the necessary precautions to prevent combustion from such instances.
  • To prevent electric shock, make sure all equipment electrode connections are secure and insulated. Also, avoid standing in water, or using equipment and clothing that is wet,
If you have any questions about Welding Safety, do not hesitate to contact D/F and talk to an engineer who will help you with your concerns.
