There are several factors that may lead to poor wire feed. The followng are some of the more common reasons:

  • Drive rolls set too tight can cause scoring and re-shaping of the wire, or set too loose can cause the wire to slip in the feeder.
  • A torch liner or casing/conduit liner being too tight or loose, or too short can cause the wire to travel in undesired ways resulting in increased wear and incorrect wire travel.
  • A contact tip with the wrong ID can cause blockage or the wire to wander from its intended path.
